ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION & RECONSTRUCTION

Description: Description: Description: Z:\htdocs\graphics\ai_3.jpg

Michigan State University's Highway Traffic Safety Programs is the only organization in Michigan, and one of the premier training organizations in the United States, that offers a long-term, coordinated, comprehensive (basic, technical, advanced reconstruction, update/refresher, and computer) series of traffic crash training programs.

Varying levels of training have been available from Michigan State University for the past 30 years and currently there are over 6,000 police officers trained in one or more of the programs. The Michigan State University Accident Investigation series is offered on a regional basis throughout the State of Michigan, and due to many requests, our series is being implemented in other states. Any individual course offering, or the entire coordinated series, may be presented at any suitable training location.

Training Programs

Currently, there are over 25 different Accident Investigation and Reconstruction training programs. Our programs begin with basic accident investigation techniques to advanced levels, using computer analysis to determine speed, principle direction of thrust, Delta V, damaged vehicle profiles and more. These courses are offered to police officers, traffic engineers, lawyers, re-constructionist, insurance representatives and other corporate entities.

The overall objective of our training is to prepare police officers to respond to major or minor traffic crashes; decide what must be done in terms of recognizing, recording and interpreting data; and to take informed enforcement action. Once the enforcement action is chosen, this training will help the officer with the "step-by-step" procedure of the investigation, case preparation, and presentation needed for a successful prosecution.
