EDR – The Event Data Recorder (NEW COURSE)

This comprehensive course will provide you with the skills necessary to operate the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) system hardware and software to enable you to download the crash data stored in supported passenger cars and light. You will learn how to use the even data recorder (EDR) information to analyze data and apply it to your reconstruction.

In addition, instructors will prepare you for the onslaught of new manufacturers that must release data to publicly available readout tools by Sept. 2012 as part of NHTSA’s new part 563 rule.

You will go to a salvage yard where you will learn how to image data from crashed vehicles with partially destroyed electrical systems. This event is scheduled on the third day of training (weather permitting).

Case Study with EDRs

• May 9-10, 2012 - East Lansing – MSU - $270.00

Case Studies utilizing traditional reconstruction methodology in conjunction with event data recorders and PCM data. Must be an AI-9 graduate or equivalent and have taken an EDR course. This course will give you hands on experience in reconstructing real world accidents utilizing current recommended usage of traditional reconstruction methodology in conjunction with event data recorder and PCM data at a pace that will let you master this concept. This course is a 2 day offering and the first of its kind and will be taught by MSU and Rick Ruth (retired Fort Motor Company EDR Engineer).

An extensive student reference manual is provided for each course, and a complete set of mapping supplies for the AI-2 courses is also included. AI-1 thru AI-9 is certified by the Michigan Coalition On Law Enforcement Standards, and are eligible for Office of Criminal Justice funds. More than 6,000 in-service Michigan police officers have completed one or more of the MSU programs.
